Its smooth lines and distinctive chrome accents evoke a sense of elegance and style, making it a favorite among classic car enthusiasts. One fun fact about the 1965 Galaxie is that it was available in a range of body styles including a convertible, hardtop, and sedan, catering to different tastes and preferences. Under the hood, the 1965 Galaxie boasted impressive engine options including the legendary 427 V8 engine that delivered exhilarating power and speed. This engine, known for its performance in NASCAR races, gave the Galaxie a reputation for being a formidable force on the road. Another interesting fact is that the Galaxie was equipped with innovative features for its time such as power steering and power brakes, which enhanced the driving experience and set it apart from its competitors.
The interior of the 1965 Ford Galaxie was designed with comfort and luxury in mind, featuring spacious seating and upscale amenities. Its dashboard and controls were thoughtfully laid out to provide drivers with easy access to essential functions. With its timeless design, impressive performance, and innovative features, the 1965 Ford Galaxie remains a classic symbol of American automotive excellence.

When Chrysler was on the ropes again in 2008 Lee was interviewed and asked if he could fix it again, he said yes, by building more small cars. May not have worked the second time as the Dart and 200 both flopped and it was Ram truck and Jeep profits that saved the day.

It was relatively narrow at 77" wide despite 2" wider rear tread. Also first Ford with curved side glass. Very much sincere flattery of GM in all coil suspension and perimeter frame.

That is correct... along with an approximately 200 lbs reduction in weight and larger 15-inch wheels with narrower tires. These 1965 Ford models were imitating the Lincoln Continental's boxy design. However, GM's "coke bottle" styling was so successful that the full-size 1966 through 1968 Ford cars had a slightly more rounded design with about a 1" increase in width. The stacked headlights were an imitation of the big Pontiac.

1965 was also the first model year for the two LTD models...2-Door and 4-Door hardtops. They were initially called Galaxie 500 LTD for that model year. Ford was so successful with the 1965 LTD that Chevrolet offered a $200 Caprice option on the Impala Sport Sedan months later in mid-1965. The newly redesigned full-size 1965 Chevrolet had a blockbuster model year with 1.6 Million units sold. Despite the massive redesign, these full-size 1965 Fords were far behind with approximately 1 Million units sold. The Caprice was not as popular as the LTD during these model years... but the Impala and Impala Super Sport models crushed sales of the Galaxie 500 and Galaxie 500 XL models. The full-size 1965 Plymouth models were also totally redesigned... but their model year sales were only 330,000 units.

One if the demos my father brought home for the1965 model year was just like the blue LTD shown in this video. I remember how radically the design had changed from the '64 models. One thing that stood, oddly enough, was a dash light that illuminated COLD, when you first started the engine. It then shut off when the engine reached a certain temperature. The LTD was soon replaced with a series of Country Squire models, which better suited our large family.

Back then these cars were well built by people doing a hard job with pride. These cars were meant to be bought by average people for a fair price. Now we have overly complicated cars of questionable quality that cost as much as a house did just a few short years ago. No wonder people buy Japanese cars they are far superior and if you are going to pay that much you had better get a really good car American car compaines can't seem to produce them.

Fun History Fact: Unless the law ends up changing, FDR will be the only person to have been elected POTUS more than twice -- he was elected four times and served out his first three terms but died very early on in his fourth term. It was until after FDR's administration that it was made into a law that you can't be elected president more than twice -- prior to that, basically all previous presidents were George Washington's example.

I had a new, 1971, Mandarin Orange Datsun 240-Z (4-speed manual transmission) bought at North Hill Datsun in Calgary, Alberta, Canada ($4,395 in Canadian dollars, I think). It was a wonderful sportscar. I'd had a silver one on order but an orange one came in sooner. My salesperson told me that silver is an old man's color and I changed my mind. I took delivery of the orange one, and I'm glad that I did. I wish that I still had it, but they were prone to rust so it probably would have rusted out long ago. I think the one featured in this video is a 1970 model (or a 1969?), due to the lack of functional side vents (where the logos are, behind the side rear quarter windows). The 1970 had vents on the rear hatchback, below the window. Jan
